1. a) the way in which the flowers of a plant are arranged on the stem or axis and in relation to each other; the flowering system; anthotaxy. The two fundamental types of inflorescence are determinate and indeterminate. b) a flower cluster. c) the part of a plant bearing flowers. d) one flower, if occurring on a plant bearing a single flower, such as the tulip.
2. a beginning to blossom; flowering stage.
